David Nerwen designed and executed original hand stitched abstract and geometric tapestries on canvas. He used a variety of complex hand stitching techniques with 100% tapestry wool yarn on canvas to build compositions ranging in scale from 9” x 15” to 6’ x 6’.
His professional training was in graphic arts and he worked in the printing and graphic design industry for over 42 years. In addition to his work in fiber art he worked in 3 dimensional forms including clay, paper, metal and wood.

David also exhibited in many juried art shows including the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, DC.in 2006 and 2008, Bruce Museum, Greenwich, CT., Crafts America, Washington, D.C. Westchester, NY, Palm Beach. FL.
He exhibited large canvases at the Bridgeport Discovery Museum, Bridgeport, CT., corporate lobby exhibits at the Landmark Building, Tarrytown, NY, and Milford Merrit Crossing, Milford, CT., King County Public Art Collection- 4 Culture, Seattle, WA
Born in Montreal, Canada in 1940, he moved with his family to West Hartford, CT in 1979, then lived in Manhattan and Riverdale, New York. David Nerwen died on April 27, 2025.
